Welcome to Second Home

Our Future Grows Here

Second Home provides a community where children can thrive and reach their full potential.

Our primary focus is to serve homes where English may not be the first language and financial resources are limited. The program is staffed by caring educators and volunteers who provide daily snacks, academic enrichment, and assistance with homework. Best of all, no family is ever turned away due to financial need.

Why Us?

Education

Icon of a child reading

Staff, community volunteers, and college students with relevant majors, such as education or social work, all work together to supervise academic activities and provide individual tutoring.

Accommodations

Icon of a child entering a school bus

Harrisonburg School buses provide transportation to take children from Second Home Learning Center to Spotswood Elementary, Smithland Elementary, and Waterman Elementary Schools in the mornings and bring students from these schools to Second Home in the afternoons.

Nutritious, healthy snacks are served before and after school.

Low Cost

An Icon of Money

Families pay a low fee that holds the spaces for their children, and to cover part of the real costs of the program. No child is turned away due to financial need thanks to donations from individuals, businesses, churches and clubs as well as fundraising events, and grants from United Way, HCPS, Harrisonburg City, and other donors.
